Agree. But Public Partnershipo has served this country well over the years. However, on two issues my views are;
Benchmarking. Money for nothing but, you cant blame the P.S employees for accepting it.
Croke Park Agreement: Personally, I don't believe that managers in the Public Service have the ability to implement the agreed changes. But wait and see, lack of progress will be put down to the unions non co operation.
Trade Unions have changed greatly since the adversarial day's of "Strumpet City". The difficulty is changing the people perception of T.U's. They exist to represent the employee, not to undermine or deprive management of the right to manage.
In fairness to vincent brown last he summed it up for me,he was saying its was beyond him how anyone could vote for FF in the next election he said it was like following a football team there is no rational to it,a lot of my family are from offaly which is the FF heartland and and that summary is accurate down there policies dont come in to it its tradition that counts it shows that civil war politics still aren't dead. Its time for change FF have brought an end to our economic sovereignty the country is on its knees the merits of the opposition parties at this stage seems to be moot point the tragedy of the 27th and 28th governments of this country have left no room for debate the opposition parties are all we have.
Spot on. Its incredible that some people think the likes of the IMF have more interest in the welfare of workers than the Unions do. Look at how the media reports any developments in our economy. You'll see markets mentioned in every second paragraph. You won't see people or democracy mentioned once
FF, FG and the rest of fiscal right here have ran the country into the ground cow-towing to financial markets, bankers and millionaire developers. And yet unions representing public servants get the fucking blame?
Lads are you happy with your union leaders being on the boards of Fas, The central Bank, Aer lingus and loads of other semi states?
The are almost all compromised by vested interests. TEEU spent 8 million on an office refurb out of members subscriptions and when sparkes were being let go by the truckload in Mercury so the work could be outsourced the union told them there was nothing they could do.(Real reason was the strike kitty was empty!) Same thing happened in BATU.
How do you think they got their semi-state jobs? By playing hardball with the government for your rights? LOL give me a break will ya.
Union leaders on 200k a year and vested interests all over the country negotiating for your rights only? sure they are.
One of the main reasons they took Croke park was because the Government threatened to stop all contributions from the public sector been taking at source. They shite themselves, Someone has to pay their wages after all. It would have meant people actually meeting the membership to collect fees. The state also wanted to lift the necessity for all subbies working in ps buildings to be unionised. (which I reckon is illegal anyway).
Dodge whos blaming the Unions on the state of the nation? I blame them on being a corrupt entity nothing else. The couldn't spell socialism half of them.
Caolan, the Indo and RTE. And to use your word, any of the "sheep" that believe what the creeps in the Indo write (or the creeps on RTE's frontline broadcast)
Unions aren't in the top 5 of those who have fucked the state up. So why don't we deal with the real problems first before going on to clean up the rest? Even talking about Union corruption now is ridiculous when you have the corruption on a massive, massive scale going on at government level
haha who voted for fianna fail?
We All Dream Of A Team Of Curly Wurly's!!! A Team Of Curly Wurly's!!! A Team Of Curly Wurly's!!!
Ah come on dodge- I know we won’t agree on many things, but to totally disassociate the unions from the massive pay increases achieved for workers, the ridiculous JLC system and also and frankly disgraceful protection of practises (e.g. 30 mins to cash cheques, extra days off etc) which occurs is blinkered.
Do you think without the part the unions played we would have one of the highest wages in Europe?
Do you think house prices would have increased at the same rate without the phenomenal wage increases negotiated with the government idiots in the labour court (it only allowed people to outbid each other)?
without the unions would our Public Sector employment bill be costing the state approx 60% of our income?
Its easy to sit in their towers, with their members having protected, untouchable employment and have NO accountability for the performance of the people whom pay their wages.
It’s a disgusting position that these people have had such a HUGE say in the running of this country- while good, honest employers are on their knees, working 100hour weeks to stay afloat because of the high cost society we live in, which like it or not, was driven by unsustainable enforced wage hikes.
I am not saying the unions are alone- BUT –they undeniably did play a role, and a major role at that.
And now that the shit has hit the fan- Begg & O’Connor are still refuse to acknowledge any wrongdoing and their shocking behaviour.
Anyway- as I said before- this thread is about the upcoming election- we are going way off topic and will never agree.
Maybe we should let bohs off too for being only a little bold?
What an astonishing statement!
Leave our corrupt bunch along cause there worse out there. Unbelievable. At this stage I'd gladly let 5% go from my dole be cut to see these guys ripped to shreds by the IMF.
Judgement day is coming for them.
Actually, the correct analogy would be punishing bray for paying their fines late while allowing Bohs to go unpunished for leaving debts everywhere
I didn't say leave them alone, I said the problems should be dealt with in order of seriousness. And Unions aren't the problem in Ireland at the moment.
But thats exactly my point, this election won't cure those ills. it might cure the important ones though (ie getting rid of FF, FG and any of the poxbag PDs that are lingering about)
Sinn Fein / Labour Labour/Sinn Fein .
It maybe a short term option but at least it removes the current lot plus whatever happens there will be another election when things settle down after this "emergency" election or maybe not.
Defo no Votes in Clondalkin : Mary Harney- Paul Gogarty or any other Green lunatic and JohnCurran or any other FF Lunatic
The Unions will be sorted by the axe that is going to fall on Public Sector wages and other related Union Employments.
Do not get me wrong I am not against Unions but certainly their is a breed that have removed themselves from teh fundamental reasons of what Unions should be doing towards helping the worker instead of screwing them , their contributions and abusing their training funds.
Once employees have less money they will hopefully scruntinise their contributions to see what value they are getting for it ......in most cases theyre just paying a union officials fancy ...very fancy wage eh eh and pension.
There's gonna be some lunatics voted in, courtesy of voter disgruntlement.
Loathe as I am to defend unions (I could not hate them more), all they did was negotiate for their members here. Bertie's dream of social partnership and his absolute need of having to be liked meant the unions went years without being told no. Typical self preservation from FF and doing whatever it takes to get votes, rather than following the mandate of doing what's right for the people. But it's grand, it's not like the Celtic tiger is ever going to stop, is it?
Thanks for doing the poll palmerstown saint, il be voting labour, i just think gilmore is the best of a bad bunch, i can also see fianna fail been wiped out in Dublin with there few seats coming from our country cousins
Bertie will keep his seat anyway. I'd bet Michael Kennedy and Brian lenihan will too. Sean haughhey and Mary hanafin are hard to call. Tom kitt should be alright. The rest could be gone-ers. Conor lenihan will take a beating I'd say.
Michael Kennedy in North Dublin? Not a chance. He's up against Darragh O'Brien for the 1 possible FF seat and I think O'Brien will beat him hands down. Having said that, neither of them could end up with a seat.
Bertie's stock has fallen considerably in recent years. He didn't manage to get his brother Maurice elected into the council. It certainly won't be as comfortable for as past years.

9th count. Trev was the 8th. Thought there was more of a gap there. Both a mile behind kennedy though.
That was then, but living in Donabate, I have to say that O'Brien has been far more effective than Kennedy in the constituency and in the media. O'Brien was an unknown quantity at the last election, but has proven himself somewhat. It's nearly impossible to call where FF are concerned. As I said, it's very possible that neither of them will get a seat. Although it will be fun to see them scrapping it out as the chances of them both getting seats is nil.
I hear Tom Kitt is unlikely to contest the election, there has to be a doubt over Brian Lenihen too I'd imagine.
Charlie O'Connor will probably hold Dublin SW but probably at the expense of Conor Lenihen. At least one of Kennedy or O'Brien will stay in and I'd probably put my money on Kennedy. Same again with one of Ardagh (if he runs) and Mulcahy staying in Dublin SC
Of the rest - one of Pat Carey or Noel Ahern will probably go, Woods, Haughey and the two Andrews will be in trouble. John Curran might keep his seat in Clondalkin. Hannafin will keep her seat but if Bertie doesn't run (and I don't think he will) FF will get one seat at best in Dublin Central. That would likely mean Cyprian Brady gone and Bertie's nemesis Mary Fitzpatrick possibly getting the nod and the seat.
If I'm right then FF will go from 18 TD's in Dublin to as little as 7 or 8
Very Very optimistic numbers there CB. If I remember correctly FF were routed in Dublin in the early late/early 90s which led to Bertie getting the top job. (they thought they needed a dub). I'd be amazed if they have more than 2/3 Dublin TDs after this. Maybe none.
I used to know it all, Now I'm going to school.
Could well be a dub leading them into this election.
The ones I'm expecting to be in are
Dublin West - Brian Lenihen. If he runs he should keep his seat but could be last man in in Dublin West. Varadker, Burton and Joe Higgins are the other three in contention for a three seater.
Dublin SouthWest - Charlie O'Connor / Conor Lenihen. I'd expect Lenihen to take a hammering and O'Connor to do ok. O'Connor is a real parish politics man and is busy around the place. Crowe will win his seat back but if Labour run another candidate they might get somebody in on transfers from Rabbitte.
Dublin North - Kennedy or O'Brien. One should survive - Again a Labour surge could see them take a seat and Claire Daly get in on any transfers leaving FF with none but I think this is unlikely
Dublin SC - Ardagh or Mulcahy. Both got elected 1 & 2. Labour could take a second seat but Mary Upton isn't standing so they'll do well to do so. Can't see FF losing both seats.
Dublin NW - Carey / Ahern. Ahern probably isn't going to run again. FG will take one of the seats so unless SF can get a bit of extra support or Labour can bring somebody in on Roisín Shorthall's coattails then FF should get one in.
Dublin SW - John Curran. If it weren't for the fact that Paul Gogarty and Mary Harney are going to take a hammering Curran would probably lose his seat but he's pretty popular and I think he'll keep his seat.
Dún Laoghaire - Mary Hannafin. Think Barry Andrews will struggle but Hannafin should keep her seat. FG could take a second seat and Richard Boyd Barrett could go close though.
Dublin Central - I don't think Bertie will run and Cyprian Brady will have no chance. Still think FF have enough support in the area to bring home a seat but could be wrong.
I reckon FF will be lucky to have more than 28 seats in the next Dail.
I used to know it all, Now I'm going to school.
