Airport fully operational today anyway - only flights being cancelled are those to airports that are closed apparently

I drove the roads myself too this morning - way better than yesterday.

    Tues - 35 mins
    Wed - 2 hr
    Thur - 30 mins

    weird
Monday - loads of people on the roads which weren't that bad but people crawled along so big delays.
Tuesday - most people thought "No way I'm doing that again, bus/train/luas for me". Journey times grand due to low volumes of cars.
Wednesday - everyone heard the roads weren't that congested the previous day so drove. Roads worse than the previous two days so they crawled along.
Thursday - most people thought "No way I'm doing that again, bus/train/luas/bed for me". Next to nothing on the roads so they're flying along even though they're in worse nick than yesterday (any grit that was put down got buried under fresh snow).
Friday - it'll be Friday so my guess is many won't bother their arse and the journey times will be okay.

Well my missus, and Charliesboots it seems, completely disagree with you Gaz. Roads this morning are far, far, far better than they were yesteday evening.

Your route might've been different, but Dublin bus doens't revolve around your route.

Depends by how you define 'better'. Journey time wise they're way better - no argument. Surface wise, far worse IMO. And I drive fast enough to properly test adhesion!

Trust me, the missus drives way quicker than you, you patronising old sold

She was talking about surface. Journey time is irrelevent as almost entirely based on traffic

Whats the point in driving fast in this weather anyway? Just a danger to yourself and other road users.

Trust me, you don't inevitably crash because you drive over 10mph with a bit of snow or ice on the ground. The key is your stopping distance and there was literally nothing to hit in front of me most of the way in this morning, all you had to do was avoid hitting both perimeter walls which most people seemed to find easy enough.

Oh yeah, I know, and agree with you. But I just think its stupid to go out speeding in this weather.

10mph is ridiculously slow on major routes, if they're empty that is.

Failing that you could book in somewhere (assuming its going ahead - ours due for tomorrow night got postponed/cancelled). The Lansdowne Hotel would be a 10 minute drunken stagger from there even in the snow. 49 quid for a single room on Saturday night. Might seem steep but bear in mind you wouldn't need a taxi home - 49 quid for a warm room without any hassle might seem a bargain come 2.30 Sunday morning.

Shower of bleedin' jessies.
Has to be done though, if the drivers say its too bad to drive and they continue and they crash they could lost their jobs when the reports are done up, not to mention all the claims that would be put in by all the sore necks etc

Health and Safety these days means "So you dont fucking claim"

For the record the surface this morning was way better than yesterday - lost control on the way in yesterday morning and did about a 180 turn.

The roads home last night were way way worse than this morning - I'd imagine this evening is going to be bad, they reckon it will go to -5 pretty quickly after sun down so that snow is gonne be frozen on the roads

Apparently the isle of man has been sheltering north county Dublin from the worst snow Dublin and Louth getting hammered) but that wind was starting to change last night bringing it right into the blizzard.

O Connell St closed both ways due to gas explosion. Enjoy getting home folks. That could mean Luas friar tucked too.

apparently the luas is still running and it's now only closed southbound on O'Connell Street - it was Cafe Kylemore that blew apparently
