Long term a higher ranking would probably be commensurate with an overall improvement in the league's standard though, which would at least partially lower the odds of sides making more progress. That would need an overhaul in the running of the game though. The haphazard nature of LoI means any upturn in European results -whether due to favourable draws or individual clubs overspending - would be short-lived. Very hard to see the Europa results as anything but a flash in the pan.

Anything less than a wholesale annihilation of Hajduk by Dundalk will now be unacceptable

If Sligo did manage to win through, they would be seeded in the next round.

I'd still say Partizan would be. Not to take anything away from Sligo. Brilliant result

Maybe when Bohs beat Kaiserslautern? They were a top 6 German team at the time. Rosenberg and Partizan definitely up there as biggest modern away wins in Europe.

Away wins in general are rare enough for Irish sides. All considered this will be our strongest year for coefficients since the year we did hertha.

Kaiserslautern were a very strong side then but the tie was effectively over. Their win in Aberdeen, though, was genuinely a big deal at the time.

I'm with oleguer. Bohs were 3-1 down from 1st leg so the win meant nothing.

Dundalk won 2-1 but still go out. Shame would have liked to have seen the travel to Karagandy.

Pity all 3 teams have gone out.
