    Thumbs down Revenge

I've seen a few posts on Facebook saying that the Six Nations victory is revenge for Henry's handball denying us the 2010 World Cup Finals. Ok, I know we had to win the game and all that, but....

Not it isn't. The Six Nations is an achievement, but nothing close to qualifying for a World Cup Finals.

Maybe I'm just not a rugger band wagon jumper.

The win didn't even deny France the competition. It cost England.
There is no emoticon for what I am feeling.

Nice to win it and all that but in reality it's a sport played seriously by only a handful of countries in the world. Good for the country to be able to celebrate things though even if it's a bit of a bandwagon. Maybe we should start a GAA world cup. Reckon we could win it

They tried that and the Australians won it half the time.

I was beginning to think I was the only one who was totally unmoved by this thing.

Let's be honest about it. Rugby is a minority sport in worldwide terms. Ok, they won the annual 6 nations thing but who really cares outside those countries? Very, very few indeed. And yet, the media are falling over themselves rushing to congratulate the team - led, of course, by RTE and the Irish Times. From what I can see, a large percentage of people who go to rugby internationals are there for the social occasion and are not really affected if the team loses.
