WWS - Remembered Always
We got the subway to Brooklyn and then walked into manhatten. Views are awesome. If you do it the other way (which we did first time out) you’ll be turning back eveyr few seconds to look. (dodge)
how long does this take dodge , sounds interestesting
think when we go this time we might do the bus hop on hop off tour
and staten island , seen the rest , oh and a lot of bars and shops will be visited
Honestly coldn't tell you how long it was to walk mad dog. I'd guess somewhere around the half hour mark (stopping for pics etc). If it turns out to be about an hour I wouldn't be too shocked either. Loads do it going to/from work so its not too far. You're above the traffic on the bridge and its pedastrian's only.
If I was to recommend one thing to do in New York, this is what I'd recommend
New York is class. Manhattan itself is so diverse. A political, fashion and financial powerhouse with only London and Paris really able to compete with it on all three fronts.
If you're gonna walk the Brooklyn Bridge get the subway into Brooklyn and walk around for a bit. It's a pretty cool place and pretty safe too. There's a street called Washington Street near the bridge, google it and you'll see a park. Great for getting photos's at a ground level of both the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges along with the cityscape. Hit the bridge and prepare to stop for a lot of shots. You'll hit City Hall and the New York Courts then for a few more photos. If you want hit up the WTC site, it's nothing much to look at but if you see the vast emptiness that currently exists amid all the other skyscrapers/highrisers you can appreciate what New Yorkers lost in 9/11. You can then move on down to the Financial District taking a few shots along Wall Street etc.
Make your way down to Staten Island ferry and take the free ferry across. Going over get on the right hand side of the ferry on the far end for good shots of the Statue if you've a camera with a decent enough zoom. Reboard the ferry once it docks and get pictures of the skyline on the way back. Saves spending 40dollars a couple if you take one of the paid ferries, bar being a bit closer to the Statue of Liberty you'll save yourself a few quid.
When you get back from Staten Island walk up along Battery Park, nice walk with lots of memorial tributes, off the top of my head Irish, Dutch, Jewish and Marines.
On the Empire (ESB) v Top of The Rock I'd recommend The Rock because you get to look directly into Central Park whereas that view is blocked by the Rock when viewed from The ESB plus the downtown core looks more impressive with the ESB in the picture. One hint I'd give to anyone going up either is to look up when the sunset is. If you give yourself 30 mins before sunset you'll get pics of Manhattan Skyline in daylight, at dusk and at night. Again for those who like to photograph this will save you some money for repeat visits!
London from above too for those interested: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/200..._at_night.html
Heading over for a week at the end of october. I've been before so i've done the usual, central park, statue of liberty, empire state building.
The week i am there (24th to 30th) not one of the NY teams are playing, between bye weeks, playing away or the season ending the week before it looks like i'm shit out of luck
Also looking at doing a helicopter ride - 200 dollars for twenty mins.Anyone done this ?
Has anyone got any other recommendations ?
nice one. anyone been to one ? never got in to the ice hockey
i really wanted to get the redbulls in and abuse Henry. They finish a week earlier i think
Can endorse the ice hockey at MSG. Just go into the cheap seats and drink beer. You don't need to know all the rules. just sit back and admire the spectal of huge blocks flying about the place looking for aggro
Get a bus to West Point if you like military history.
Heading over next month for 10 days.Pictures just make me more excited
Have my tickets for a Jets game boxed off.Tailgating at 8 in the morning.Quality day out

New York is great. Would pretty much echo all of what Dodge said. Definitely spend half a day in Brooklyn if possible. Fantastic area and crime isn't really an issue there.
I've "registered my interest" or whatever bollocks they call it.
If you want to watch the mens 100m final it'll cost you £725. Boxing finals are about £400 too
