Looks as if RTE. are set to cut highlight show 'Premier Soccer Saturday'.
Lets hope this doesn't mean the end for MNS

It shouldn't. It's being done on cost grounds and rebroadcasting EPL matches, even highlights, costs mucho wonga.
The other thing is that the deal RTE had with the FAI meant they had to show a weekly LOI highlights show. Don't honestly know if that deal is still in force or if that clause was included in an exntension of the deal.

The MNS FAi deal ends this year. It may mean changes to their LOI coverage (maybe to a later half hour show) rather than it ending but RTE Sport's budget has been slashed. Hopefully we still have coverage

Do the Fai not part fund MNS. Always thought they did.
I blame Biggyrotten for not paying his TV License![]()

Don't see how this affects MNS. EPL rights were a big chunk of the department's budget and the cost is going up at the exact time the station's making cut backs. Most expensive patrt of MNS production must be the outdoor broadcasting units, and there's only a full complement for live games.
I wouldn't imagine they make money, no. They still have to follow the public service broadcasting charter, though, and that entails showing a lot of stuff (most of it of a very standard, in fairness) that isn't necessarily of any commercial value. I think domestic football definitely falls into that category, and i wouldn't be worried about them pulling the plug. Besides, I think they already cut production costs at MNS.
But RTE clearly don't think that. Coverage of LOI games has always been sporadic in RTE's history. They used be shown on Sports Stadium, then in the 90s their weekly Sunday night sports highlight show sometimes included highlights. AFAIK MNS is their first dedicated LOI highlights programme and that was only brought in because the FAI contract stipulated it had to be (whatever anyone thinks of Delaney, fair play to him for that).
I think the list below shows you where RTE's priorities lie as regards sports coverage in this country. Here are the Top 10 most-watched programmes on RTE2 for the most recent week available:
Top 10 May 27th - June 2nd 2013
The Sunday Game Live
Revenge
The Saturday Game
The Americans
The Sunday Game
CSI
International Soccer Friendly
Home And Away
Grey's Anatomy
Blue Bloods
The higher the audience, the higher the advertising revenue they're desperate for.

Nobody watched it anyways!
With Bucka to lead us sure no one could beat us!
You can't fairly compare viewing figures for soap operas, mass marketed dramas, live sport...and those for what is a de facto minority sport.
Like I side, I'm under no illusions as to the commercial value of LoI coverage, but I do think RTE's obligations as national broadcaster offer some kind of guarantee the league will be covered.
I'm hearing MNS will be gone next year. RTE Sport budget decimated. Apparently they wanted to show one live EPL game a week instead and they'd no bobs for that. Only things they'll have next year is International Football and Rugby and the bogball.

Sorry Dodge I forgot about the Champions league. Absolutely if they could dump MNS they would. The audience is so bad you wouldn't believe. Its up there with the Angelus for viewers. And Hofner if they stopped paying champagne charlie actors so much we could have more football on telly. Shame on them
No champions league? Fucks sake... Hate watching them muppets on tv3 and Sellotanta... Amateur broadcasters!
If MNS is dropped and there's no coverage at all on tv it would surely allow clubs to be able to upload clips Friday nights not having to wait till after MNS.. Like wise didn't the Fai stop srfctv from their live broadcasts online that might open up again without them been able to stop it

They should drop the champions league as well. Just cover league of Ireland and give all the clubs the money they save. Problems solved. If only it was that simple. Does anyone know what kind of coverage MNS gets?
I didn't hear an actual figure but the term used was embarrassingly bad
The viewing figures for MNS are abysmal. Practically nobody watches it. Not from the horse's mouth, but close enough
