Was only looking in Eason's earlier... There's not many new ones out, most of them are all soft backs editions of the books that came out last year!

this is a tragic, but excellent read :

Impossible not to let it get to you. Gives an insight into depression and how it effects even someone that appears to have it all

Easons never really have the Variety of football books ,unless your a fan of Unira Celtic or Liverpool.was in easons yesterday looking at the football section and noticed they have have about 5 or six books on ManCity which are all unofficial paperback dross cashing in on the recent sucess.

few books ive read that were realeased this year which are obviously not for everyone and as far as I know not available in Ireland Unless you order them through Hodges and Figgis . The Paul Lake Book & Bert Trautmans story are well worth reading and defo not just for City fans .

The Outsider: A History Of Goalkeepers by Jonathan Wilson is published in December. For me, he's the best football journalist by a country mile. He's authorative without the stiff-collardness of, say, Henry Winter, and is clearly passionate without the phony I'm-one-of-you mateyness of someone like Sid Lowe. Inverting The Pyrmaid: The History Of Tactics is another one of his from a few years ago. Highly recommended. And he wrote a biography of Brian Clough too (he's a massive Sunderland fan). Also, worth a follow on twitter, @jonawils.

edit: don't know if the Clough bio is any use - I haven't read it.

Apart from The Damned United, I read another decent Clough biography called 'Provided you don't kiss me'. Its also about the journalist (in Nottingham) and his relationship with Clough, but a good read on a fascinating subject

Im reading a book on the Famine. I initially thought it was about the history of Pats association with the FAI cup.

Some amount of shit football books out there, most of them are just really long forum posts from a fan who loves his club but secretly hates them.

Whenever anyone asks for "decent books" its the same ones that get mentioned over and over again.

Best one i have read in last few years is Life Too Short but its not really a football book.

Worst one ever is Beyond the Green Door? jaysis that was fucking awful.....pissed me of reading the 1st page of that piece of shit.

/settled onto a 8 hour plane to read this and its actually page 7 ....

Not footie but can anyone recommend anything decent. I like reading Irish history mainly. Going on hollibobs soon and need a book for the pool.

Last years highlight was a book on the sack of baltimore. I heard there a book on the IRA in inchicore in the war of independence/civil war but don't know the name if anyone can help. My mothers family were agitators in the CIE works at the time so it would be of interest.
I used to know it all, Now I'm going to school.

I should have said earlier, my favourite football related book is 'My Father and Other Working Class Heroes' by Gary Imlach.

Its about Imlach trying to piece together his dad's career, and how that tied in with life in the 50s and 60s. It might even be my favourite book ever (never mind football related)

Just finished it. Very good alright. Amazing how footballers were treated back then compared to today.

On books in general, finally got round to reading "Who Stole Our Game?". A big disappointment. Poorly written in places, half of it seems to be about the gah and worst of all it's really Rovers-centric.

More Than Just A Game is definitely worth a read, about a football team(s) set up in Robben Island prison during the height of apartheid, uplifting and inspiring. Provided You Don't Kiss Me, Gary Imlach and Bert Trautmann's are excellent as well.

Not forgetting Shoot 2013 as well (though I was more a Match Weekly man meself)

I got that last year, despite our obvious heartbreaking history with the Cup it's still a fascinating read. Some great stories and loads of stats about cup final attendances and team line ups
And Brian Kerr is in tears.

got the book on robert enke and "the secret footballer"

finished the secret footballer. very interesting read. he mentioned in it about negotiating bonuses. it got me thinking about bonus gate last year. he said something like bonus arrangements have to be submitted to the league before the season starts. does this happen over here?
