Sports in Ireland are such a joke. Exact same as GAA. A great sport ruined by a cunt of a governing body.
Just hate the way they took all that redevelopment money and still said no to football and rugby saying that Croker and the likes were only for GAA even though they held concerts there all the time and had that Muhammad Ali fight there in the 70's.
Not to mention american football and baseball. The gah is a festering boil on the arsehole of the country

Ha!!!!! Turns out the Indo totally got it wrong!!! What a f*ck up. See the last paragraph in the article. Hate when the Indo/Sindo publish articles to suit their agenda (Delaney's been on their hitlist for a while now) and don't bother to check their facts. Real tabloid stuff from a shitty, agenda-dripping news outlet.
Would love to see Delaney get his comeuppance but not in this way.
The biggest problem I have with John Delaney is that his decision to overprice and/or refuse to sell the 10 year tickets to a company in bulk has cost the association millions and has directly caused the financial strain the association is currently suffering.
Despite the myth that the association is run by a board of management, Delaney pretty much has carte blanche to run the association as he wishes. he is supported by a bunch of cronies, most of whom earn substantial 6 figure sums, and any purge at the top would see these poeple exposed and likely replaced - hence no action has/will be taken.
in any other walk of life Delaneys performance in relation to the single most important decision in the associations history (stadium funding) would have had him hung, drawn and quartered. His poor decision making is the reason these staff are being let go and the reason the association can no longer support grass roots football or indeed the LOI- and its not just admin staff, its elite roles being amalgamated, local coaching officers and regional managers being dismissed.
As for people saying the GAA is a great organistion- how could they go wrong? imagine how Pats would look today be we spent €10,000,000 on marketing, facilities, ground improvements and administration instead of players wages between 2005-2009.
Our SCP is 65% of turnover- whats the GAA's?
Yeah after a few years but although it was never a fixed agreement it was heavily implied that part of the deal of the redevelopment money they got was that they would let football and rugby be played there and they took the money and then said no sorry, GAA stadia are for GAA only.
It's only when they came under massive pressure when the Aviva was being built that they eventually buckled and let them be played there.
It's like the opposite of what happened with Thomas Davis and the SDCC Stadium.
Ah right I see. They're c*nts so
The Church, the GAA and Fianna Fáil: the three pillars of old Ireland. Two are crumbling.......
In fairness to the GAA they are changing and the RULE 5 decision (and English national anthem being played was a defining moment in the organisations history.
There are very positive noises coming out about their potential support for hosting the Rugby World cup in 2023 and a positive decision there could pave the way for a very realistic Irish/Welsh or Irish/Scottish bid for a European Championships.
Takes more than decent sized stadia though, a decent transport system and proper accomodation for fans are big factors as well, which would be a big stumbling block particularly down the country (seriously doubt Semple or Páirc Uí Chaoimh would be considered)
Not saying it can't be done but it wouldn't be realistic imo
I would imagine that the GAA going in with the IRFUs bid is a long term plan to upgrade all the regional grounds to all seater....very clever as once again there would be government funding.
So no matter what you think of the state of different stadia now they will all be rebuilt if the tournament gets the go ahead for Ireland
I don't know how countries make money out of big tournaments but one of this size would also bring in 100s million to the local areas where games are being played plus the touristy areas that people go around in between games. It also creates employment in the contruction of the stadium and infrastructure and once it's all done we still have the fascilities (as a country as opposed to us as football community).
The only thing we have to compare it to is the Ryder cup. Did that work? (or is it also part of the big shit we're in now)
Well Ryder Cup was mostly privately funded. but yeah, big tournaments lose money all the time. Sure there's economic benefits brought to the country but at what cost? Greece is absolutely still paying for the Olympics in 2004. (Obviously most feel the benefits greatly outweigh the cost)
To be honest it'd fucking sicken me to see money being spent to upgrade GAA grounds for 3/4 football games and then never have them used for football again. And part of the new 'awarding games' culture is 'legacy' so UEFA probably wouldn't be happy with it either.
I'm not against the FAI trying to play host/part host to any tournaments. I just don't think the Euros are realistic. How about upgrading 4 football grounds (Turners Cross, Tallaght/Dalymount (if you wnat only football), Sligo Showgrounds/Terryland and one of Athlone/Drogheda/Dundalk) and hosting the Euro u21s instead? Would be a far better 'legacy' for Irish football. Then if they do that well, they can say "hey platini, remember we did this well..."
"We've seen you come, we'll see you go"
Agree with Dodge there. Hosting or jointly hosting a u21 Euro's is the best we can ever hope for IMO. And fcuk the GAA and IRFU stadiums.
Agree 100% with what Dodge said- but would have no problem with GAA investment if the country could host the euros. Would be amazing!!!
John Delaney doesn't do irony.

^ wow^ take the money contradiction out of if and he still manages to contradict himself...spectacularly. Genuine questions, how has still got the job, does he listen to what he says and how does he believe he's worth that money?
