    The Secret Footbaler.

Anybody recently read that article on the Guardian's website on the secret footballer. Fascinating insight into the life of a footballer and the highs and lows that follow. It's an extract from his impending book, I Am The Secret Footballer: Lifting The Lid On The Beautiful Game, which is due out on August 23. One question remains - who is he? Ex-England international who spent 5 years at a specific club, winning back-to-back player of the year awards. Any ideas? Oh, you should read it too.

A lot of people suggesting it's Kevin Davies. Personally, I haven't a clue, can't wait for the release of the book though.

It's definitely not a keeper because he has written about scoring goals on a few occassions. Someone told me they reckoned it was Nicky Shorey about 6 moneths ago, and every article I've read since suggests the same.

He writes for FourFourTwo magazine also and it mentions he has represented his country at international level , doesn't say senior or not.

I don't think it really matters who it is, that's not the point. I've just finished reading the book, and if it is a premiership player (or an amalgam of a few of them filtered through a journalist) then it does give a very good insight into the world of a modern pro.

Some good stuff on players relationships with manager, fans and other team-mates and also some interesting info on wages, wags etc.

Overall, the life of a premiership player doesn't sound all that amazing. The writer of the book certainly doesn't seem to be enjoying himself very much.

I wonder how it compares to the experience of LoI players over here (money aside, obviously).
