    Hi There

    Greetings

As you may have guessed from the username, my name's Steve and I'm predominantly a fan of Brighton & Hove Albion FC ('The Seagulls' - not to be confused with Bray Wanderers).

However, the reason I'm posting on here is because I'm also something of a Pats fan. It all started when I was visiting a friend in Dublin a few years back who asked if I'd like to go with him to a football game, which turned out to be the UEFA Cup 2nd Leg against Elfsborg (great way to start, eh?) and so after that fantastic night I got a bit of an affinity for the club and so started to follow Pats from afar, with my next visit over in October 2010 involving 2 games (a cup replay against Shamrock Rovers and a league game a few days laterthe aforementioned Bray Wanderers) and the purchase of a replica shirt, namely the dark blue one with the lighter blue sleeves and the Nissan sponsor, which I wear around Brighton to this day, drawing a fair few confused looks from folk trying to work out what team it is.

So, long story short I thought I'd get registered on here and say hello to some fellow Pats fans/followers.

You gonna get the bus to Hannover? You could probably hop on when we get off the ferry in Holyhead.

Your first two cup games were Elfsborg and a cup semi replay defeat to Rovers? Thats pretty much the two extremes of following pats, no matter how long you've been supporting us.

Brighton is a top city. My college has an exchange with the Brighton Institute of Modern Music over there. Can't wait for it. Should be a cracker. Glad to have Saints outside of Dublin

    Cheers for the welcome.

I have to agree with the above poster: biased as I am, Brighton is a brilliant city and I love living here. Of course the team is on the up as well, we moved into our state of the art new home last Summer, all paid for by a very very rich lifelong Albion fan, we've a top class up and coming manager in Gus Poyet and some bloody good players to boot - our last 3 signings all have frequent Champions League experience (for Man United, Valencia and Chelsea) respectively, and that's in addition to the former Valencia and Spain star Vicente who lines up for us these days. If you happen to be in the area and get chance to visit The Amex, you'll not regret it.

I seem to remember as well that on my first visit you had Joe O'Cearuill at the club - an ex Albion player (on loan from Arsenal) as well, although not one of our more successful ones to say the least!

I heard about your new stadium actually. It sounds so class. Would love to go for a match. Yas need to win The FA or Carling Cup next year and draw us in the Europa League

Good man Steve. Welcome. Didn't Colin 'when I come back to Ireland, I'll never play for another team other than St Pat's' Hawkins play a game for Brighton and get sent off straight away or something?

Ah ... here we are. More than one cock-up it seems. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

"Colin Hawkins was signed for Brighton and Hove Albion by Micky Adams at the start of the 2008-09 season. He instantly made a name for himself by making a goal-costing cock up in what seemed like every other game. Unlike a lot of players who have pulled on the blue and white stripes down the years though, these mistakes didn't seem to be down to him not being very good - it just seemed to be pure bad luck

Relive some of those great moments, culminating in his last appearance at home to Stockport in which he lasted 90 seconds off the substitutes bench before giving away a penalty and being sent off."

Joe O'Cearuill was absolutely rubbish for us too. Horrible attitude.

    Yep, classic comedic moment there.

We also at one time had a player named Shane McFaul who, I believe, played in the LoI for UCD (and possibly others) and made a similarly comedic impact. As best I can recall, he made one substitute appearance for us, very late on in a game, didn't touch the ball at all and somehow contrived to trip over his own feet. He was thereafter nicknamed "Shane McFail" and left the club quite quickly.

By contrast though our current Irish representative, namely Gary Dicker, has made himself a good, soild name for us.

    Haha, I hadn't realised that!

Yes, there was indeed Gerry Ryan, a real class act although slightly before my time, on a similar note I believe Mark Lawrenson also won plenty of Irish caps, although how Irish he actually is I'm not entirely sure lol.

We did also have Wayne Henderson a few years back, but he didn't exactly distinguish himself either.

And in fairness, we can't ignore Lawro. He did score the winner at Hampden to help Ireland qualify for our first major championships in '88.

Think he signed around the end of 08. Went to Stevenage in January 2010, so I'd say just over a year.
