    Yep, they're gone!!

    PRESS RELEASE

    MONAGHAN UNITED FC

    Dated 18th June 2012

Monaghan United after much deliberation and soul searching have decided to bring to an end it’s involvement in Airtricity League of Ireland, this decision was a hard one and not taken lightly but it was felt that this was the only real option left to us at this time.
Monaghan United entered the National League back in 1985 and while it’s been tough it has been an enjoyable journey, we have made many friends and forged great links within the football family. However for a number of reasons this was no longer sustainable and with a heavy heart we decided to bring to an end our involvement with the Airtricity League of Ireland.
The reason we have taken this decision is mainly but not only financial. To keep a team playing at the highest level in this country is expensive and with the clubs inability to tie down a anchor sponsor, coupled with the rising costs of membership of senior football and the lack of support from the national league it was felt that no other option was available.
However this is in no way the end of Monaghan United in fact it is a new beginning, a new direction has been chosen by the club, and it is our intention to pour all our energy, experience and facility’s into the development of football in the county of Monaghan.
Monaghan United will sit down with all of its members and interested parties to explore how best to achieve this.
Monaghan United would like to extend our gratitude to our manager and players who throughout this time have been very supportive and indeed our decision to leave at this time is to allow these players to find other clubs as soon as possible. We would like to wish them all the best of luck in the future.
Once again may I thank all of our members, supporters, sponsors and the good people of Monaghan for their kindness and we have been assured of their support going forward.

Finally Monaghan United would like to take this opportunity to assure all our creditors that all accounts with them will continue to be honoured.

    Yours in sport

    Jim Mc. Glone

    (Chairman Monaghan United)

    Fairly sure thats the rule,

we beat them drew with them, rovers beat them and drew with them.

    Sligo beat them 1-0

    Update table would be handier

This is embarrassing. How can you encourage people to go watch LOI when one team goes out of business every year. Joke. . What have we had over the last while. Dublin City, Cobh, Cork City, Limerick, Derry, Kildare, Sporting Fingal and now Monaghan. The FAI licensing now needs to be modified to asses whether the team will last the season financially. Whatever about withdrawing at the end of a season withdrawing from the a league mid season should carry heavy fines to discourage it. It turns our league into a farce.

Didn't the Limerick Chairman have to lodge money with the FAI to get their licence or something similar ?

Mons built a full size astro. Fai got involved and used it as a regional centre to help. Mons then decided with a state of the art fullsize 3g astro to train the team in......................

Haven't really seen enough of Conor Murphy to pass judgement. He was only a sub in the recent 0-4 and came on for about 20 minutes. He did score two against us last season in Richmond in the 3-2 defeat. Did he play with SRFC for a while?

A club needs to be run correctly. If its not things will happen. Players finding out on twitter in an insight to how things were done.

Hopefully they'll get an A licence and build again.

Have no idea about licensing, but do you think they'll getting any kind of a license after dropping out of top division half way through the season?

Liscensing crieria is laid out in black and white, though. There's no leeway to be exercised one way or the other. If they meet the criteria, they'll get a license; if they don't, they won't.

Hopefully there's some LoI representation from that neck of the woods next year.

With our recent history and the burden we are carrying does anyone really have sympathy for a club who overspend to extinction?

Cant see how people can feel sorry for mons but be delighted when it happened shels or bohs. Fans as always will be the ones to suffer most.
