Went to watch Sporting when I was there about 4 years ago. Match was on a Saturday night, just went to ticket office at the stadium that day and got tickets no problem, the games over there never sell out, except for the matches between Porto/Sporting/Benfica

Thanks slavia.....
Cool bridge there if your really bored looking at old buildings.
Stayed in Estoril in February (about 40 mins on the train) so only ventured into Lisbon for heading out for the night. Headed to Bairro Alto (think that's what it was called) - found it quite sleazy, lots of ropey lads openly dealing coke and speed and other assorted goods on the street, clubs and bars weren't that great either. Wouldn't recommend that side of it.
Massive casino in Estoril which was great craic, well worth a visit if you enjoy the odd bit of Gambloring.
Was there last year for a week and a bit with Nurse Nightdub, had a great time. The castle's nice for a stroll around. Or get the elevator from the main street (Rua Victoria) uo to the next barrio and wander about there - it's a bit mad, it's basically an outdoor lift but as Gaz said, it'll save you slogging up some pretty demoralising hills. Depending how long you're going for, the Oceanarium is well worth a visit. Definitely do the river tour, the boat goes from the square at the bottom of Rua Victoria, takes you downriver to the bridge Gaz mentioned, past the mad statue and on to Belem, which'd be worth making a trip to in its own right.
It's not dear, especially not according to the Nightdub International Currency Converter (i.e. how much is 20 Marlboro compared to home?) You'd get a meal for two with wine for €50-€60. Think we paid about€60 a night for the hotel, room was on the small side but it was right on Rua Victoria.
There were a few times when they were quite literally pushers. Got very aggro at one stage, not pleasant. Can happen anywhere of course, plenty of other good reasons to go to Lisbon.
Thats the same around Praca de Comercio but if you keep your wits about you its fine. One thing I would advise is to go to a Fado club and ask the locals as I met a friend of a friend who showed me around and brought me where the Portugese go. Estoril is fantastic well worth a visit and I think there is a castle there, as GS said the black jack tables was where I spent most of my time. Pay a visit to the Aquarium which is amazing, they have a tank with sharks, turtles, sunfish etc. and its about three stroeys high (approx!).
If you are going to see Sporting Lisbon, I didnt go but get the metro as far as Campo Grande. Buy a day ticket for good value. If you have trouble getting by in English (should know a few words of Portugese anyways ) try speaking French as for most it was a second language for years .
Finally go to Castle Sao Jorge, the view across the city at sunset is amazing on some of the terracotta roofs. If you also get a chance go to the Chinese Pavillion bar!
Heading to Estoril next week. Heard a few negative things after i booked but there seems plenty to do reading this. Didn't realise a few lads on here have been so feeling a lot better about it now! Benfica are playing so will try get tickets and drag the gf along.
