Isn't the plaque already there? Or is this a new one?

There's a plaque already up to the poet Michael Hartnett who wrote the excellent Inchicore Haiku. This is across the street, the old William Hill's.

Excellent? Each to their own I suppose - I'd call this a pile of wank.

And shows how 'hard' it is to write one of these things.

The only reason I've ever come up with for putting a plaque on that gaff to commemorate this shite is that someone was putting up a satellite dish or something, made a bollocks of it and put this up there to cover the hole.

    Good enough day out.

Jack O'Connor decided to shite on for a good 20/25 minutes, nobody else went beyond 5. Bit hard to listen to the likes of Ó Cuiv, but some great contributions from others especially historians. Good mixed crowd of locals too, few saints and familiar faces.

Enjoyed Manus O'Riordains brief bit on Inchicore men that fought in the Spanish Civil War against fascism, three of whom died. Inchicore seems to have had a vibrant and visible republican-socialist presence from the time of Emmet Hall which Larkin purchased and which served as a 1913 soup-kitchen right through to the civil war in Spain.

Emmet Road has a great history. Fascinating you can see the spot where Mallin was executed from what was his home.

AFAIK the three from Inchicore who lost their lives were Liam McGregor, Tony Fox and Mick May. Had a book at one stage mentioning this, but I can't remember what it was called

Bouncing this thread, maybe the mods can change the title to 'Inchicore History' or something similar.

Really liking the articles about 1916 in the area that are in the programme at the moment.

Here's a piece about the reopening of Richmond Barracks in May. Hopefully it can become a real tourist attraction and draw more people into the area.

Doing a bit on this myself. Historical OSI mapping is a fantastic tool. This link will bring you to Richmond Park, for example. Use the different maps on the right hand side to look at Inchicore through different years. http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V2,712134,733620,11,7
