I'm sure if we had dropped in the rankings you'd be one of the first to point out how irrelevant they are.

But, yes, I agree completely - Trap out.

I can't figure out if your a wum or simply a begrudger. Never seen anyone so misguided in their opinion and so forceful in it. Now you can have a disliking to someones style but to call for his head cause he constantly disproves your opinion is something different. All the curves are pointing up.

As a matter of interest what qualifies you to have such steadfast opinion that Trapp is wrong and you are right? Here's his qualifications....

    Juventus
    Italian League (6): 1976–77, 1977–78, 1980–81, 1981–82, 1983–84, 1985–86

    What curves?

I might be the only dissenting voice on this particular thread on this particular forum, but 1) I'm not the only person unhappy with the way he's running the shown - read the papers, 2) I don't think I know more than a man who has spent 6 decades in professional football, and 3) my opinion is not steadfast - I was all for Trap when he was appointed, but I don't think his work looks like that of a man earning north of €1.5m/year.

Witness the performance against 10-man Armenia at the Aviva and explain this upward curve to me. Watch the 180 minutes of football in which we made a reasonable Russia side look the Hungary of the 1950s. Only Shay Given and Richard Dunne stopped us from conceding double figures over the two games. Where was Trap's lauded "system" then?

And since you've gone to the effort of posting Trap's managerial CV, I'll ask the question: if he is, in fact, good enough to be one of the highest paid coaches in international football, why the fuck was he working in the Autrian Super League?

Neither a wum nor a begrudger, by the way. Just care more about my national than Pats, Barca, and Melchester Rovers combined. And I have two eyes in my head.

Last word from me on this thread. Maybe the name should be changed to the Trap Love-In Thread.

The curve is upward. 17th on the planet. Over 200 nations in FIFA. One of the smallest nations in Europe. We've qualified for the finals. Grassroots football will get a huge windfall from this in terms of participation. The fact we have qualified will bring years of reward on the ground in this country. UPWARD.

You seem to be blaming our standard on the manager but not the quality of the player at his disposal. You pick our poor performances and never mention the good ones. We've a squad of journeymen and donkeys but you want Barca football.

It's unbelievably short sighted to think what trapp has achieved is a failure on any level for football in this country.

Regarding the papers. You'll find most of the opinion makers in the papers are either failed managers or never had the knowledge of the game to try managing in the first place. People like Dunphy who pretend to care about Irish football but wouldn't have a clue who played left full for the league champions last season. You mentioned trapp winning a league in Austria. How many of our opinion makers have won a league ANYWHERE. Brady in by far the most qualified of our pundits and who's side is he on?????

We qualify the game in this country wins. The FAI now have more money to extend their UEFA award winning coach education framework. Facilities for kids will improve beyond their already excellent levels at some big clubs. Have you any idea what the likes of Home Farm and St Kevins have done in the last week alone? And all in spite of the fact as you point out our style is poor.

The legacy of International success goes way beyond the international team. The next generation is already being molded. The Ddsl u14s put 6 past Man City last week.

The game is booming at underage level and it will get much stronger because if qualification. But hay none of that matters cause we should be failing to qualify but easy on the eye.

Just as an underage coach, do you think results matter more than performances, or would you go so far as to say results is the only thing that matters?

Just on this. While I agree with your side of things muppet, the facts are skewed. We are 19th in the world, and while that is an achievement in itself, and one I am delighted to see, we are only the 14th highest ranked team within UEFA.

Development is the only thing of importance in schoolboy football.

14th out of 53 in the strongest region on the planet is fantastic with a tiny population. Football would have no GAA type of operation to contend with in most of those 53 either.

Again, I agree with you 100%, I was just saying there's more to world rankings than first glance.

Believe it or not theres a theory that the biggest problem Irish kids have is the English academy system. The good stuff they are learning here is been coached out of them. A debate for another thread tho.

    Howya lads,

For the people going Euro 2012 what are you doing for accommodation? Have you sorted any yet? I'm going by train from Germany, if I can't find cheap accommodation thinkin of just bringing a sleeping bag and hoping for the best and maybe a tent. Don't have any experience of huge tournaments like this so don't know what to really expect. What are others doing. Cheers, Robbie

What do people think of websites like this aswell. Dodgy? Legit?

A big game for Celtc today, and just like their only other big games, against Rangers, Stokes sits on the bench keeping it warm. Yet that muppet Lennon reckons he was gonna ring Trap to tell him Stokes should be playing in Euro 2012 for us!
