I think the fact who he plays against on a weekly basis says more actually. The guy played in England for 3 clubs, and has 4 goals in 61 games (1 goal in 25 games in the Championship), but scores for fun in the SPL.

If he proves me wrong, fair enough. I hope he does to be honest

At least you want him to do well even if you don't think he will. That's more than can be said for some - there's definitely an anti-Stokes agenda that has little to do with football.

That's true and I'll admit I'm a party to it. If you're going to be a complete scumbag representing Ireland, you'd better be having the sort of influence on the pitch Roy Keane did at his peak. If you're only going to be average anyway, I'd sooner somebody else got that jersey.

He needs to leave Celtic if he wants to play for us IMO playing against hibs and all won't do much for him! January be perfect after getting 6 big games in champions league too

I don't know if it's so much an Anti-Stokes agenda as something else. I know that I absolutely hate it when an eligible player doesn't get picked for Ireland for whatever reason and then becomes this big romanticized figure and everyone screams blue murder that the Irish Messi is being left out. Then when they get in they play fine, but everyone goes on about them like they'll be the saviour of Irish football. I'm sure Stokes would do a job for Ireland but is he vastly better than what we already have? Personally I don't think so.

Very quiet on this thread considering we play one fo the world's great footballing powers tomorrow night, even allowing for the fact any hope of qualification is gone. Are we all dreading the worst? I think if I was offered a 2-0 defeat now I'd nearly take it just to prevent the humiliation of another complete pasting from the Germans.

Can't wait to see how the Andy Reid situations unfolds. Not whether he'll play, but whether he brought his guitar for the after match sing-song.

I'm looking forward to the game, actually. Will be interesting to see what formation and players Noel King puts out. It's just a relief not to be dealing with the same old crap coming up to an international fixture - the incomprehensible press conferences, the baffling selections, the dread....

Dodge, is your comment tongue in cheek? The myth of Germany adopting the colours of Ireland as their second kit has been debunked.

Great to see the ball sticking to the Irish players feet now trap is gone. Dont care who the manager is. Technique is technique is technique.

King is only there because he costs damn all. Chance for Delaney to save a few quid. He's probably paying Trapattoni up to the end of the campaign so he doesn't want to be paying three huge salaries.

Wouldn't surprise me and would be as about successful as Staunton.

    Delaney out. He's a fuckwit.

Dont know much about coaching but surely with limited time to train a team and get ideas across a good coach like steve clarke was at chelsea or rodgers would do a better job

I know these have two good jobs in the epl but surely theres a first team coach in europe worth a punt to get the best out of the limited amount of players we had

Wasnt there a good coach let go by man u when moyes took over

If O'Brien put 2 million into the top League in Ireland then i might have respect for him.

O Brien is one fo the money ment behind Limerick I think.

As for the new managemtn team - happy with O'Neill.

but it still horrifies me that Delaney is on €400k per year, and now we ahve an assistant manager geting a €700,000 per year deal (and a amanger on 3 times that), when the LOI champions get €75,000 net in prize money

MON won't be getting near 2,000,000 a year?

Think it's 2 million a year for his entire backroom team. Then bonuses if we qualify, his bonus being 800k

That's not true. All his football spend goes on the FAI and Celtic.

JP McManus is involved with the new Market's Field development

Apparently when ONeill was asked if he'll go to any LOI games he said it's not a question of if, he will be going to LOI games when the season starts. Always good to hear

Although he may never actually pick a player all we have asked is that he has a look fair play to him

If I was O'Neill I'd be considering picking a LOI player or two for one of the friendly games early next year. He's got to look at his squad and see how many players have come from the league. Irish players are not getting the same chance over in the Uk that they would have in previous years so we get to keep players like Forrester and Brennan. There's no real downside in throwing in a Brennan or a Bermo for a friendly squad and there are decent upsides in terms of PR and getting a good section of Irish football to engage with the Irish team again. Could Bolger or Brennan be that far behind Paul Greene or for that matter are they that far behind Wes Hoolahan who is a good player but wasn't head and shoulders above everyone when he played for Shels.

Kerr did that and got slated for taken players out of teams with no intention of using them in competitive games
