    Music Thread

For some reason I can't find the old Music thread. If it's around then mods can just merge it if they want
    Anyway.
    Stone Roses are reforming.
The legendary four-piece - Ian, John, Mani and Reni - have announced two massive shows at Manchester's Heaton Park on Friday June 29 and Saturday June 30, 2012. The dates will form part of an extensive world tour.

The band have already been into a rehearsal studio to start work on the set-list for the one of the most eagerly anticipated reunifications ever.
Just thought I'd let you all know and let you all share my joy and cheer yis up after last night

Yeh, their debut would be in my top 3 records of all time. Lucky enough to have seen 'em twice in Brixton, unforgettable memories.

In other news Shaun Ryder's playing the Village on December 10. He has a new band but plays Mondays and Black Grape stuff. Unmissable I think

That was a quality gig that night. All 3 bands were on fire and it was great to see Terry Hall coming on to do Nightclub too with blur. Of course they're only in it for the money. The seahorses didn't set the world on fire and Squire's paintings aren't selling. But I don't care, appartently they are looking at doing gigs/one day events rather than festivals so no p-oxegen and that means I'll be dusting off the fila hat, baggy jeans and dancing like a loon at some stage next year.

I took dancing lessons from Dr. Nightdub you know...

Was at that gig too, three great sets from three bands at their peak. Blur played the as yet unreleased Song 2 that night and everyone was like 'what the FUCK was that?' Went straight from the RDS to Midnight at the Olympia to see Desmond Dekker (RIP) doing his thing. Jesus if I tried that now I'd need a kip after the second support act in the RDS!

As it goes I absolutely adored the Roses back in the day, went all the way down to Cork just to see them. They were a great example of a band that were influenced by the past rather than just blatantly stealing whatever parts of it they chose. Their records still sound great, especially the first album and the second, though over produced, never deserved the flak it got which had a lot more to do with them giving their first interview when they came back to the Big Issues than the songs on the album - the music press were out for them after that snub.

That said, I'm not hugely excited by this reunion. Brown's voice was on the way out even in '95 (his performance of their newer songs that night was notably better than the stuff off the debut album) and is completely fucked now - he'll maim the likes of 'Made Of Stone' that demand a bit of vocal range. At the moment I'm saying I'm not going and would rather remember them as they were, whether I'll stick to that come the time remains to be seen - might turn out to be dependent on the venue.

I've no doubt they're only doing it for the money but the same goes for 95% of bands that were around 15+ years ago and are still going.

Anyone listening to the new Ryan Adams album? Lyrically it's one of his weakest efforts. Very disappointing.

Slane has never been on a friday. That date is knocking about with a list that surfaced about two hours after the official announcement and a few of the dates have been spotted as bullshit, so i wouldnt read to much into it yet

Yeah 02 customers can buy them a few days before it. Used to be able to anyway.
Re Slane, I'd be surprised if they didn't play it. Huge pay day for them.
