    Petrol in a diesel car

    right no laughing lads,

Was driving the aul one's honda civic back from the game tonight- there was about a tenners worth of diesell left and stupidly put 50quids worth of petrol on top of it. I then drove it for about two mins to the house. So its a diesel engine with fuck loads of petrol

Anyone idea how bad this is ? how much it will cost ?

Id love to know how you did that.Like im not being funny, but I didnt think it was possible.I was filling mine up recently and was just out of work and was tired, and was wondering why I couldnt get the pump in,then realised it was the diesel pump.

Drain the engine, then let it run till empty.

Or pay someone to do that for you.

not that difficult. put petrol in my car, so naturally go for petrol pump and being distracted thinking about the horrific 90mins of football i had just watched, i didnt stop to think

You only drove for 2 minutes, you might've gotten away with it. Whatever you do don't switch on the ignition, have it drained asap and keep everything crossed. Possible damage to the fuel pump/injection/filters.

well the engine wouldnt start back up (thats when the penny dropped)- so would that not mean it gone through the engine and may have done damage ?
is draining it easy enough..............................even for a cabbage when it comes to stuff like this ?

should be a nut on the bottom of the fuel tank iirc.

and its easier to put petrol in a deisel because the pump is smaller than the diesel pump. diesel pump wont fit in a petrol filler

If it ran ok, you probably didn't do any damage. Get a length of hose pipe and put it into the tank as far as it will go. Get a container and then suck the pipe (you may have prior experience, but I won't judge) to get the contents of the tank flowing into a container. The trick is to have the piece of the pipe outside below the lowest level of the dieslel/petrol tank. Another part of the trick is to make sure you don't get a mouth full of petrol when siphoning. Have a couple of cans of diesel ready to empty into the tank when you're finished siphoning and you should be sorted. I reckon you probably got away with it. Putting petrol in a diesel engine is less serious than putting diesel in a petrol engine.

By the sounds of it, sitting through the second half of that match would have put anyone in a coma.

Did it to a friends car a few months ago- stuck about 1/2 tank in.

Bro was a mechanic and he said to top it up with diesel and keep 'diluting' it by topping it up every chance you get.

Car emitted a fuckload of smoke for the next week, but was grand and nomproblem since. Sounds like you put in more than I did though!

I'm not so much interested in the fuel conundrum, but more curious about why an aul one would have a Honda Civic...or have boy racers moved on since the olden days?
