This is tougher than you'd think - have gone through recent years and deleted a list of about 6 countries when I suddenly remembered some other player from there (eg Riise, Eto'o). Some of these are guesses:

Dwight Yorke - Trinidad & Tobago (Man U)
    Kaladze - Georgia (AC Milan)
Sami Hyppia - Finland (Liverpool) - scratch that, didn't Litmanen win it with Ajax?
    Djimi Traore? - Mali (Liverpool)
    Marquez - Mexico (Barcelona)
Yaya Toure - Cote D'Ivoire (Barcelona)

Is Vidic technically the first Serb?

One possible addition is Harry Kewell for Australia. But Craig Johnston (him what invented the Predator boot) was an Australian from South Africa who played Under 21 for England so might negate that.

    Right, some right ones
Ukraine – Andriy Shevchenko (Milan 2003).
Zimbabwe – Bruce Grobelaar (Liverpool 1984).
Trinidad & Tobago – Dwight Yorke (Man Utd 1999).
Iceland – Eidur Gudjohnsen (Barcelona 2009).
    Georgia – Kakha Kaladze (Milan 2003, 2007).
Mexico – Rafael Márquez (Barcelona 2006).
Ivory Coast – Yaya Touré (Barcelona 2009).

    Some wrong
Korea – Park. Doesn’t have one apparently.
Ghana – Pele is one but Sammy Kuffour has one from Bayern too. Muntari’s the 3rd
Finland – 2, Hypia and Litmanen
Mali – 2 Traore and Keita
Serbia – the Yugoslavs count for them as they’re not a separate country, they’ve just changed name…
Swissland - Sforza won one with bayern in 2001
Norway - Ronnie Jonnson was the first

Jaysus remember him, good shout if it's right.

Can't actually think of a Bulgarian who would have won it other than Stoitchkov himself.

Would he not get the medal for being a squad member that season? Played in both the 1/4s and Semi's

Does Eusebio count for Mozambique or Portugal? Chancing me arm here....

Racking me brains for the Rooskie - been through most of their best players of the last 20 years and can't think of anyone who'd have been in the right place at the right time.

I think some Algerian or Moroccan became the first Arab to win one for either Porto in 87 or PSV in 88 but fecked if I'd know his name.

    Right -
Great shout on Bonini from san marino. For some reason this has always stuck in my mind.
I'll give – Rabah Madjer (Algeria) who played for Porto in 87 (never heard of him)

    Wrong
There's been 4 poles. The 2 mentioned plus Kucsak for Man U and a guy for Porto in 87

Just remembered a really obvious candidate - the great Ferenc Puskas of Hungary. Not sure what Nationality he officially was when he was with Real Madrid though as he fled Hungary after the 1956 Uprising. I know he played a few games for Spain before he retired so he mightn't count. can't think of any other Hungarians, they've been fairly shit since the wall came down.

Doubt I'm going to get any more of these.

Just to pick up on something you said back at the start Dodge about there being loads of winners from the old Soviet Union. Was that just a throwaway remark? I can't think of any who would have won it - Dinamo Kiev and Dinamo Tbilisi were the only Soviet teams to win European trophies and both won the old Cup Winners' Cup (Kiev won it twice). Were there a few defectors that won European Cup medals? Never heard of them before if there were.
